Areas of work

Oral Health Inequalities

We explore how and why oral health inequalities arise, how oral diseases affect disadvantaged and marginalised communities, and what can be done to reduce these inequalities. By combining data, local community experiences, and modelling, we will co-develop and test approaches to promote more equitable oral health outcomes.

Training & Capacity Building

We invest in the people and skills needed to build sustainable oral health research capacity. Through tailored training, mentoring, online resources and postgraduate opportunities, we support early-career researchers and community members to develop the knowledge and confidence to contribute to future oral health research.

Commercial Determinants

We investigate how food and drink industries influence oral health, consumer behaviour,  and policy. By examining industry strategies and engaging with key stakeholders, we will identify opportunities for policies that protect oral health and reduce the influence of commercial interests on health decision-making.

Community Engagement & Involvement

Communities are at the heart of CORE. We work alongside community members to ensure that research reflects local priorities, experiences and needs. Through community forums, training and co-production, communities will help shape how research is designed, conducted, interpreted and shared.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning

Monitoring, evaluation and learning run throughout CORE, helping us understand what works, for whom, and in what context. Using mixed methods, theory of change and established guidance for evaluating complex interventions, we will generate learning to strengthen implementation, inform future research and support sustainable improvements in oral health.

Systems Reform & Innovation

We examine the barriers that prevent disadvantaged communities from accessing dental care and the financial burden of oral diseases. We will identify, co-develop and test innovative approaches to integrate oral health into wider healthcare and improve access to affordable, essential dental care.

Responsive Research Fund

The Responsive Research Fund supports locally led research that responds to emerging priorities and strengthens the wider goals of CORE. Funding opportunities will enable established and early-career researchers in each partner country to develop and undertake small-scale studies with the potential to generate new ideas and evidence.
